When I was young, my foster mom had a calligraphy set that she never used. I didn’t understand much about calligraphy so I used to just play around with it. Never really learned anything. Fast forward to my marriage. My husband one day explained how he learned calligraphy in school when he was learning the Quran. However, since it’s been many years, he was out of practice.
He encouraged me for years
Ever since my husband and I have met, he has been encouraging me to learn new things. I grew up in foster care so didn’t get the chance to learn a hobby. It’s not my foster mother’s fault though. Her focus was getting me into a university and so she made me focus on academics rather than hobbies and sports.
However, I had to deal with a lot of issues from depression to health issues. Now, at 40 years old, I feel like I am in a place where I can finally sit down and focus on learning new hobbies. Again, thanks for my husband for years of support and encouragement.
Going forward with Calligraphy
Calligraphy will be one of many things I will be focusing on. I’m just trying to figure out which hobby is enjoyable to me. I’ve already brought some Calligraphy markers. If I become more interested in learning and advancing myself, I will buy calligraphy pens at a later date. Since calligraphy pens are expensive right now in Turkey, I’ll study the basics with markers first.
My husband brought a lighted writing desk (well, it was for my oldest when he was learning how to write. I will later teach him cursive since they aren’t learning in school) which will be perfect for videos and for my calligraphy writing.
Anywhoo, here’s to a great start, hopefully.
