Starting The Odin Project

Day 1 of learning to code

I have decided to extend my coding knowledge by using TheOdinProject. I had learned to code many years ago when I was in high school in the early 2000s. Over the years I have picked up various skills that helped me but now, I want to get a more in-depth knowledge of coding and maybe work for a start up or, if I’m feeling brave enough, start my own little business. I’m uncertain where this will all lead but for now, it is back to self-learning for me.

I’m excited and ready to learn. I might use other sites such as https://scrimba.com/ and any advice from my husband who has already learned how to code and is working with a company from home.

Why I’m choosing The Odin Project?

My husband took a course which he said was useful for him. I, on the other hand, don’t really have much time to do a course that involves me sitting at my computer for a set time frame. Right now, we both work from home. His job is more steady and set whereas I’m a freelance writer which means I don’t have any set hours. My kids, when they need something or have an issue, will come to me more than my husband for help.

The Odin Project gives me the flexibility I need to be able to deal with my kids and still find time to study on my own. With plenty of videos, subreddits, and the Odin Project Discord server, I’m sure learning coding language such as REACT won’t be too difficult but that’s the fun of it all. To jump in and try it.
