I brought Artline Calligraphy Pen 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0mm nibs
Starting my self-learning handwriting improvement journey with Calligraphy....
I didn’t realize how many different kinds of pens there are for calligraphy. Right now I have settled on the Artline Calligraphy Pens: 1.0mm nib, 2.0mm nib, and 3.0mm nib. I’m not 100% sure how long I will keep at Calligraphy but if I see that I enjoy it, I’ll get better pens.
The Artline Calligraphy Pens: 1.0mm nib, 2.0mm nib, and 3.0mm nib wasn’t my first choice of pens but it was the most affordable for me. I didn’t want to spend too much on something I may not like once I get started learning.
Since I’m in Turkey and the currency here is Turkish Lira, these pens cost 72 TL each for a total of 216 Turkish Lira.
My path to learning Calligraphy
There seem to be a lot of information online but for now, I’m going to use YouTube and the Calligraphy subreddit. As a self-learner, I still need to be able to ask questions if I get stuck somewhere in my handwriting journey. I also notice there are great posts to look at on Twitter/X, Pinterest, and Instagram. While I won’t be using them to comment on other people’s content, I will be using those platforms to get an idea of how my Calligraphy progress is going.
Another source I will be using is “Lettering Daily”. It’s a blog with a whole lot of information for beginners and others who are into Calligraphy. I would like to point out that I never spoken to the owner of the blog and picked up his link over at the Calligraphy subreddit out of curiosity. I have checked out a few of his articles and subscribed to his blog to get into the freebie section. So far, I like what I see and hope to utilize some of the content that is provided there.
Finally, I will not be using any special paper. Printing paper is all I have right now. As before, if I find that I enjoy Calligraphy, I will be willing to spend more time and effort buying other materials as I improve myself. Right now, I’m just starting off. I like the idea of Calligraphy (and who knows, maybe my kids will like to join in as I get started).
